Pick 'n Pay
Why have extended hours with no service

Friday 25 January 2013. Most retailers would plan for an expected high volume of customers on a month end Friday. Not Pick n Pay Steeledale. In spite of advertising trading hours until 7 pm most of their cashiers closed at 6pm leaving long lines of frustrated customers at the few remaining check outs. Customers who complained to the lady Supervisor at the Information Counter where treated indifferently accompanied by the now standard shoulder shrug. She clearly did not think it was her problem and did nothing to try and solve the problem. Not even an apology for their bad planning. I am convinced Pick n Pay treat this store as a dumpling ground for poor performing staff. They would never get away with this type of service in Sandton.
The store has over the past 30 years downsized on a regular basis and perhaps the time has come for Pick n Pay to decide if they really want to be in the area. If they do then they need to seriously improve their service. The customer used to be King in Raymond Ackerman's days. Now the customer is an irritation and inconvenience to their staff.
