Double Charged

I recently opened a House & Home account (which took almost 2 weeks to open, due to head-office delays) in order to buy a few things that we need for the house. Upon opening the account, I was told that the first payment needed to be made by no later than 1 October and that it would need to be made in cash - the direct debit would come off my account from the following month.

I am on an extremely tight budget every month so I wanted to double-check that the money wouldnt come off my account before I paid the cash. I went to the counter and asked the lady to check that I needed to pay my first installment in cash and that the DD would not come off of my account too. She assured me that the money would only be debited from my account in the following month and that I needed to pay cash. I made the payment and the next morning, guess what? My account was debited too!

I am fuming! I specifically went to check before I made the payment, and now I am out of pocket this month and also have extra charges due to direct debits that bounced because of this un-budgeted amount!
