Shocking Service at Express Till

My wife and I visited the above mentioned store yesterday afternoon about 16:30. We had a total of 8 items to purchase, so we decided to use the express till, for obvious reasons. There was a que which most express tills have, but the que was caused by, according to the cashier a staff member. The so called staff member who had a Hungry Lion uniform shirt on had a trolley full of groceries who was going to pay at the express till. There were probably about 50 items or even more in her trolley, I was taken aback by this, and when I asked the cashier how is this possible, I was told that the express till is also used for staff purchases. There is no sign up that shows this. What happened to The Customer Comes First? And what shocked me even further was that the cashier called a supervisor who proceeded to cash up the apparent staff member as if all other customers in the que were invisible. Hungry Lion staff is Shoprite staff??? I am appalled! Needless to say we had to wait at least 15mins to make our purchase. Ridiculous.
