The P-n-P guarantee?

My wife bought a hairdryer last July and this blew (smoke, etc.) at the end of June.
I went to the store with the receipt slip (which states 'keep this as this is your guarantee) showing it was bought 11 months ago at this store.
At the store I was told that the box is required - this is surely is not necessary if you have the original receipt? And then also, who keeps a box for a year? The slip states 'This is your guarantee'
Again, I also offered if they really wanted a box, to provide me with a new hairdryer and they can have that box.
I was also told that I have tampered with the dryer as I had cut of the 2-prong plug and fitted a standard South African 3-prong plug.
I was told by the manager that they would contact the supplier on Monday (this all happened Saturday) and query with them and let me know on Monday the outcome of their investigation. I was given a repair slip which states my cell number.

Of course, Monday comes and goes and no call regarding the status. This is now Wednesday and still no call.

Very bad service and not living up to their promises. This needs to be forwarded to their management.
