I have never in my life seen service so phenomenally bad!
In May of 2012 I requested a "Confirmation of name change" form as I changed my name legally a few years back. As this name change has caused me no end of issues, bad credit ratings and an inability to open a bank account with the same bank as my wife, I requested this form to settle matters once and for all.
One and a half years later and I am still phoning Home Affairs at least 3 times a month and still every time I call I get a different response. So far they have included:
- I am wrong, I was not born Sean Renier van Rooyen.
- Home Affairs have no record of my name change.
- There is nothing they can do to help me.
- They will give me a "Confirmation of name change" form only if I supply a copy of my old ID (Which they took away when I changed my name)
- I must supply a copy of the payment for the "Change of name" service which cannot be initiated without a payment.
- That I must wait another 6 months.
- That the documents have been lost.
I am at the point where I want to pull my hair out but there is absolutely nothing I can do. I have even e-mailed DHA directors and PR managers directors with no response.
