My name is Teboho Isaac Segele,
I am a South African born in Sebokeng. In 2002 I applied for an I.D book for the preparation of my future and for the registration of my final year matric exams, as it was required by the Department of Education.
On 15th April 2003, I received an I.D book with a wrong date of birth. I had to write my matric exams with my birth certificate. The following year 2004 I re- applied to correct the wrong I.D number. In 18 January 2005 I received a new I.D book, with a correct I.D number and I was happy that my problem is solved with Home Affairs.
When I started working the bank requested that I obtain a letter for home affairs to conform my ID number.
The home affairs department informed me that my new ID was duplicated. Meaning that the ID with the incorrect date-of-birth is the one active on the system and my current ID with the correct date-of-birth is invalid.
The system indicates that the ID with the incorrect date-of-birth is active.
All this took place without prior communication with me.
