We applied for our new-born's birth certificate in January 2013. He was born on 14 December 2012 and to our surprise when we picked it up they had his date of birth as 13 January 2013. We then applied in February 2013 for it to be amended.

We go to fetch the corrected birth certificate in July only to be told its not ready and must come back in 8 months.
We then called 0800601190 to find out how long.
When we called them, they tell us that the head office only received documents in 30 August and it will take 8 months from August.
From the time we applied in February till August our documents was just kept in home affairs Durban.
Now we have plans to go on holiday but due to pathetic service from our department we have to cancel.
I don't understand how they just left our documents unattended for 6 months.
We called the 0800 numerous times to help speed up process and each time they said they can't do anything and must call Durban offices, when we call Durban offices they say they can't help.
So who has the authority to help?
