I bought a residential property last year - 2012. the previous owner ran his business from his home which meant he paid mixed use property rates. I have been struggling to have this rate category changed back to residential rates only, without much success. i have logged a query (Aug 2012) with the municipality as well without success. I corresponded with a Mr Steenkamp @ the municipality, whom was quite helpful and the rates was rectified on 1 March 2013, but with the annual increase that took effect on 1 July 2013, the rates was back to mix property use - its a difference of almost R400. i have notified Mr Steenkamp again via email on 24 July and followed up with another email on 29 July and was only then notified that my email was forwarded to the rates department, till date I have received no feedback from anyone. its been backwards and forwards since June 2012. i have evidence of the trial of emails sent etc. i just want this matter resolved and my rates category change to residential only and for it to stay like that.
