Department of Home Affairs
ID & Passport Application

In March 2012 I applied for Citizenship through descent and at the same time applied for my ID. In June my Citizenship was accepted and i was sent my Citizenship letter and abridged Birth Certificate with ID number. At this stage i started chasing up on my id book, i visited Home Affairs and called the call centre on a regular basis. Nobody was able to help me or chase the issue up with pretoria. Due to still not having an id book i cannot apply for a passport, and my job is all out of the country which means i have had to travel on a foreign passport, as instructed to me by home affairs as i informed them that i required a sa passport in order to leave the country as my work is all internationally based. Finally yesterday i attempted to leave the country and they stopped me and prohibited me from leaving the country until i have a SA passport, even though i cannot apply for one as i am still waiting for my ID Book.By not letting me leave the country has cost me loss of income ($450 US/Day), I have lost my contract with the company i was supposed to be working for, it has damaged my reputation within my industry and i am now at a complete loss as to what i can do.
