No notification of Policy Lapsing

I would like to voice my utter disappointment with this policy, this morning I had a problem with my car and got my insurance to come and assist, it seems it is a mechanical problem the mechanic is till busy with the car, I get to work and start calling my Insurance to find out if I may claim as I do remember taking out protection in case of mechanical failure on the car, I called McCarthy Insurance only to be told by the call center Agent that my policy has lapsed on the 22nd Of September 2013. No letter was sent or an Sms to let me know or remind me of this or to ask if I would like to renew this policy and today I have a real problem. This is not on I cannot believe I have to hear such news when I need this policy the most. I don't know what I am going to do now because I am having my car fixed and will be needing assistance with it which I could have gotten with the policy that I was paying for. I find it funny that only after posting the complaint originally for Hollard as their name appears on McCarthy's website on the 29th Jan 14 I get an sms from Bidvest asking if the insurance has expired and if I'd like to renew where on the papers sent to me by Hollard it states in 5.2
