SA Post Office
Not informed to bring ID

We received notice 6762 to collect an item from the Wynberg Post Office too big for delivery. The item was addressed to "The Head", and not to an individual. Nowhere on the notice did it inform us that identification was required. I stamped the back of the card with the Centre's official stamp, as I had been told at an earlier occasion. When I went to the Post Office today 15 November at 10:30, I was asked for identification. When I said that it did not say anywhere on the notice that this was required, they refused to give me the item and did not even look at the stamp. They went on and on about this being a Post Office requirement, while I maintained that if this was so, then they needed to inform customers upfront and in writing on the notices they sent out, and not once the customer was already at the teller. I was told "We are in the process of printing new forms". This is not good enough. And I have been told this before, about two years ago when I had a similar occurance and at which point I was told to stamp the notice. Surely the Post Office does not legally have the right to withhold the item under these circumstances? It does not belong to them and they are merely agents
