We appointed Abbey International to do a small move from JHB to Pietermaritzburg. Their staff was intoxicated, truck broke down on highway, some of our furniture got badly damaged and the subsequent attitude from management was dismal. A new couch cushion got badly torn, two Bali chairs scratched, lamp scratched, sleeper couch torn, book case damaged and washing machine small kick plate broken.
This after paying for protection wrapping! Items were only wrapped at the truck once removed from the flat and damaged had been done already. Bali chairs arrived in PMB not even wrapped.
Abbeys repaired scratches on two chairs and book case, as this was a bit of sanding and varnish. They took the torn cushion cover to match the fabric. After two months we had heard nothing from them, no feed back whatsoever. Eventually they said they were unable to source the fabric and refused to contribute to recovering the couch as it was imported fabric and thus we need to recover entire couch and cushions. Despite the fact that we did not ensure the goods, their staff was grossly negligent and admitted guilt by repairing some items. None of their company slogans and promises rang true in this case.
