I am staying in my house for 10 years now and have have had 3 Kwikot geysers fail already, each lasting on average only 3 years - this is completely ridiculous as geysers are not supposed to be a consumable item. The last geyser was completely corroded and caused damaged to a new bath that was recently installed. The geysers have a 5 year guarantee and carry the SABS quality seal, which as far as I'm concerned means absolutely nothing as they need to be replaced with such frequency.
How can a geyser, a pressure vessel, be manufactured to such poor quality? Based on my experience, it seems they are engineered to last for only 5 years after which they must be replaced. My parents have 3 geysers ranging 25 to 30 years - No issues!
What plumber has told me is that these geyser anodes need to be replaced every 2 years - this means opening the geyser and affecting the seal integrity - who pays for this and carries the guarantee then?
ABSA bank specify Kwikot on insurance claims - surly this must cost a fortune in premature failures? As far as I'm concerned, this only supports kwikot and promotes the sale of sub standard goods.
I rather pay a premium and buy some other brand than kwik
