Sabc Tv Licence
False claim made to dun consumers

The SABC claims on its website, and its debt collectors repeat it as a mantra, that it is not subject to the Prescription Act. Their "logic" is that because licence fees are payable in advance, it is not a credit transaction so consumer legislation, including the Prescription Act, doesn't apply. So in its view claims against consumers are never time-barred. They accordingly continue to harrass alleged debtors for many years after their claims are no longer legally enforceable. They understandably refuse to issue summons to recover their alleged claims - but also won't stop sending annoying SMSs and emails. No-one at Fawlty Towers in Auckland Park pays the blindest attention to pleas or protests about harrassment. Claims are just passed around from one bunch of unscrupulous attorneys to the next. What a despicable way to do business. No wonder they are in such a mess
