Demand for payment for non-existant account

My wife received sms's from JM Attorneys stating that they are unhappy with her random payments for Houseware Exclusive account. According to them this is for something she purchased in 1998. She has no knowledge of these people, they also said that the statement only has acceptance signature on and does not state what the product was that she alledgedly bought. Told us that she is listed on credit beauro and will only take her name off when payment received. Amount was R4900.00. They also stated that they sent letters to her via postal system which she did not receive. When asked to send the same letter again.
What do we do??
