I bought a DLINK dir-655 wireless gigabit router specifically for use as a 3g router, and made effort to buy a DLINK dir-156 3g dongle so that it would work with the router. Spent hours sourcing/trying to find out which 3g dongles are compatible. Spent more hours trying to get the 3g dongle to work with my firmware version 1.21.
When the dongle didn't work, I went to the south african website to download the latest firmware, but only found firmware from 2008. Spent hours trying to find the south african firmware for upgrade.
I then went to the international dlink website [URL Removed] and made sure I downloaded firmware for my specific hardware version (A). Spent hours trying to find out which international firmware can be used.
I followed the steps for firmware upgrade without any warning that it might cause issues. I specifically plugged in a network cable, as instructed, because upgrading firmware over wireless can be dangerous.
Now my device is unusable for its intent as a 3g router, because of international firmware used, and D-LINK support says: "The only option for me now is to go to the store and buy another router".
