I requested the cancellation of my Protea Hotel Prokard membership three times in December after a sales person phoned me to renew my membership and then tried to fraudulantly upgrade me to a higher membership level at a higher cost during the sales pitch, I only found out about this when I asked her how much would be taken off my credit card and was told over R1000 when the membership I have is around R400. Both the sales person and her manager laughed at me when I complained about this on the same phone call and promptly took the lower membership fee (R495) off my credit card on 4 December 2012. I tried to cancel my membership in writing via the Protea Hotels website three times during December and was eventually contacted by Tracey Luqmaan, whose last e-mail to me on 31 December stated that all of my information had been forwarded to the refund officer who would contact me but I haven't heard anything since. She also informed me that I would have to pay to have the membership card posted back to them and this amount would not be refunded. I refused to take delivery of the membership card as a result.
