Medical Aid update

I had an unfortunate fall in my home on the 1st January 2013 and my GP advised me to go to the local hospital casualty to be checked as I had fallen onto my back. I have a Hospital plan and there was casualty cover in 2012 and before that but on the day in question I had not received the new updated version of cover for 2013. I only received that email on 14th Jan from Resolution Health stating that the Casualty cover had now been removed. I received an account for the Hospital wanting their outstanding monies, I was quite shocked. I then wrote an email dated 24 Jan to the Customer services line explaining the problem and asked if they could please pay the accounts as the incident did happen prior to the new structure coming out. Brent Petersen replied that they could not pay the account as I was on a Hospital plan and did not have casualty cover. I wrote another letter dated 30 Jan explaining my story once again to date I have had no reply to my emails and the Hospital is wanting payment on this account. I feel that this account should be paid by the medical aid as the incident happened prior to the changes. Had I known on the 1st January I wasn't covered I wouldn't have gone.
