My hubby had to go for a Shoulder Operation and got an authorisation. Upon receipt of the authorisation document on 9 October 2013, I contacted the medical aid. I asked why I had to pay a co-payment of R1800 for an in hospital procedure, the call centre referred me to authorisation department. They couldn't answer me why I had to pay& said I had to take up with the medical aid themselves. It was after 5pm, so the "Fedhealth Medical Aid" staff wasn't available to assist me. She advised she will get one of them to contact me, it is 24 October, I have had NO CALL from them. I also ask her to provide me with the Fedhealth service provider specialists, she could not give me 1!
I got my bill from the anesthetist R13k! They only paid a little over R4k, so now I have to pay in R9k, because they could not give me a specialist that was on their list.
Today I got the hospital bill R72K!! my so called medical aid paid only R61K, leaving me with another R11k to pay in. So much for UNLIMITED Hospital Cover. Thus far I have to pay R21800.
The only quote we got was R8k from ortho doc, no one ever advised that I will pay R21 800! I
They obviously do not know the meaning of "UNLIMITED".
