We recently got married and as part of our honeymoon booked a 2 night stay at Calais wine estate in Paarl. I booked online and on the website we were promised luxuary accommodation with views of the dam, numerous outdoor acitives to do, TV etc. We were in for a surprise! the cottages themselves are not badly equipped but luxuary is an overstatement. THere were no specatuclar views from anywhere in the area as our laborours cottage was stuck at the back of a farm house. all the activities are non existent and no mention was made of them. We were subjected to Russian TV, the only channel available and eventually the farm hand brought us a DVD player so we could at least watch a few DVD's. we had NO hot water during our stay and no water pressure so had to shower in the farmers house, an inconvenience to us and them. Unacceptable! we were promised 1 nights accommodation refund to compensate and we are still waiting to this day. If you are thinking of staying in accommodation in Paarl, do not choose Calais, you will be diappointed and the bad attitude of Maritza is a true reflection on how the entire estate is managed - poorly!
