My daughter was admitted to ICU on 19 May 2013 at Cape Gate under a 24 - 72 hour authorisation number as there was no other hospital that had a ventilator available at the time. Two months later the anaethetist sends us a bill of R5 000 that must be paid immediately or they will be handing my husband over to the attorneys. We have thousands of other bills for my daughter when she was admitted to hospitals this past two years. Now Discovery comes up with a story that they paid within their "rates". If you have an 24 - 72 hour authorisation number then you dont pay any cost. I will be forwarding this compalint to the HPCSA aswell to investigate. Discovery says they paid a portion but we want the whole amount paid not just a portion as this ICU admission was authorised.
