The Hotel Claims they are not Responsible

I booked at the Umhlanga Road Lodge on the 04th - 07th of July 2013, for the Durban July weekend. I checked in on Thursday the 04th of July and paid the full amount for my accommodation and checked in. On the 05th of July there were no issues. On the 06th of July 2013, my room was broken into and my tablet, watch, earphones and fragrance where. I went to report to the duty manager - her name is Brenda. A report of who accessed the room was printed and myself and the cleaning lady where the only people who entered the room. The cleaning lady then confessed that there was a guy who claimed my room was his, and that he asked her to open my room for him as he had forgotten his keys inside. this lady opened the room for this guy and she left the guy in the room. Police where called in and a case was opened, the GM was also called in and she informed that she would follow the processes and come back to me. Last week Friday I received a letter from the hotel saying that its not their responsibility and that they cant confirm that I had those goods. They will not pay for them. The Hotel staff opens my room for someone to in my room & the hotel claims its not their fault?
