My grandmother, a fit, vibrant 72 was bitten by a rare tick & has been in hospital with renal failure, on tube feeding & a ventilator. She has recently woken up from an unconscious state & doctors say she will make a full recovery. We were hopeful until Medshield informed us she is to be moved tomorrow morning to JHB General Hosp as she must go to a so called step down facility. She is currently in one of their designated service providers so why transferred to state hosp? I am disgusted that a med aid will force someone with a PMB in one of their DSP's to transfer to state hosp. We pay exorbitant med aid rates to ensure we receive private healthcare when we need it! She is recovering well until now and she is now to be moved while still unstable on a respirator. This is totally unacceptable, I also can't get hold of the fund due to unreasonable business hours and excessive call cues! If Medshield does not contact me as a matter of urgency, I WILL take this further, that's a promise. You are willing to take our money, so step up when its required of you! Maybe the National Health Care System will be better seen as we pay private funds and then land up in state facilities anyway!
