My 24 yr old daughter was admitted to Christiaan Barnard Hospital, far from home, because it was the better option on her Keycare plan. She was getting seizures. The nursing was shocking in the general ward. Her symptoms were very obviously neurological, but a specialist physician was assigned because there was no neurologist on the premises. After being sent to Constantiaberg Hosp for an EEG, (we had to take and fetch her ourselves while she was disorientated and incoherent) The Epileptologist/Neurologist at Constantiaberg recommended that she be transferred there. Discovery Keycare then suggested that she go to either Paarl or Groote Schuur Hospital. Paarl is about 100km away from us. GSH is a state hospital. Why bother to pay for medical aid if they make u go to a state hospital? Firstly, the call centre had 2 consultants who promised to get back to me. I only got the one name - Ms Ferreira. Neither of them did. Then later had Maria Craythorn and Natasha Scholtz offering all these unacceptable alternatives. When the best doctor in that field works 7km from her home and has already been authorised to treat her, why does she have to resort to a state hospital?
