Poor quality components

Upgraded my Vodacom contract, migrated from Blackberry Torch to Samsung Galaxy S3. Only have my new phone (which I love) for 3 weeks but already my screen is badly cracked. Not sure how the crack occurred, could have dropped from pocket. My point is that I had a Blackberry Torch for 2 years and it still looks brand new, even though I have dropped it many times and it even ended up in the toilet but still works perfectly. This is quite an expensive phone and surely the screen cannot crack so easily. Then after calling Samsung to find out if it is covered by warranty, after holding for 40 minutes was cut off and had to call back and hold for another half hour. Starting to regret migrating away from Blackberry. Please Samsung assist, I do not have R2000 to repair my brand new phone.
