Unreasonable and unfair treatment

I bought a Sony Z1 cellphone in October 2013. This phone is supposed to be water resistant as it is advertised as such.
I used it once to take photos of my kids in a swimming pool in December, and the phone got damaged. I booked it in at MTN in Bloemfontein in January and they send it to their repair centre and also to Sony. The outcome, Warranty is void due to water damage. I did not abuse the phone and followed all the correct protocols for using it to take pictures under water, but because it is now water damaged it's my fault.
How can you market a product to perform a certain way and as soon as you use it for that purpose and it breaks, is it the consumer;s fault. I see this as n Factory fault as it could not perform as advertised. This to me is ridiculous and a total miss representation of what the product can do. I now can not get hold of anybody at Sony SA in Midrand to discuss this incident. Bad service to say the least. Even MTN is just pulling up shoulders and say there is nothing they can do. I am extremely unhappy and I am insisting on restitution.
