Samsung Galaxy S 3 Not Charging

My Samsung Galaxy S 3 is 8 months old. When I plug the phone in to charge, it charges but at very very slow rate. I took the handset in to MTN more than a month ago. I had been charging my phone for the whole day that day and it reached 2% by the time I took it in. My phones battery was so dead that I could not even get my information of the phone or back up the content of the phone. MTN did not give me a courtesy phone and now I am using a phone instead of my Samsung Galaxy S 3 which I am paying for every month. I lay this complaint with Samsung as well, as many of my friends and family were keen on purchasing a Samsung Galaxy S 3 but now they are wary of doing so. Thus far MTN has provided me with a poor service and this does reflect on you (Samsung) as well. I would not have to deal with MNTs bad service had my handset been working in the first place. What happened to Customers come first or is this something that Sumsung and MTN seem to ignore on purpose. I have had my Galaxy S 3 for 8 months now and always gave it excellent reviews, its a sad day that this has changed.
