I sent in a Microwave for repairs (at EasyTV Repairs in Rondebosch) on Monday - the door would not close properly, so the microwave would not start - on Wednesday (2 days later) they give me a call and tell me that the cost for the repairs would be R500. I don't think its quite acceptable to pay R500 for repairs for an item that you can purchase new for R499. I decided not to continue with the repairs and rather buy a new microwave.
When I requested for my microwave back, they insisted that I a pay R100 for an assessment fee (i.e: 25% of retail cost). I reluctantly paid the R100.
I decided to have a look at the Microwave myself, I discovered that it was just the door latch that was out of place and was able to repair it myself and the microwave was back in perfect working condition - while in their quote, they were charging me R200 for parts that were not required.
I really don't know if this is how all repair companies work, but this is completely unethical!
