August 2012 I was injured at the University of Johannesburg APK when a rusted old window fell out from the second storey and landed on me.
The UJ ambulance took me to the Milpark hospital where they left me to deal with myself. Luckily a friend came with and used my medical aid details. From the accident I had no use of my arm for more than 2 months and another month regaining movement.
I have received NO assistance from UJ and they have not reimbursed me a cent of either my medical bills or incurred expenses as a result of the injury. Immediately after the incident UJ drafted an indemnity form which if signed by me would remove them from ANY LIABILITY OF THE INCEDENT. I refused to sign this form as they are 100% liable.
Six months later and I still haven't received a cent from UJ despite having made contact with UJ right up to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof Heak Kriek, with no success. The buck is continually passed on to someone else to deal with.
My only remaining option is to take legal action against the university. Consulting a firm specialising in these matters advised I will definitely win but will be a 2 year battle.
STOP THE GREED AND LOOK AFTER YOUR STUDENTS UJ!!
