No respect for consumer rights

The harddrive on my laptop died and my local Internet Fundi advised me that I needed a new one (he recommended a SATA 2.5) and that I should contact PC Zone. I phoned their Pinetown branch, described the make and model of my laptop, and asked them a) if I needed a SATA 2.5. and b) if they had one in stock. They said it was the right hard drive for my laptop and they had one in stock. I went to the Pinetown branch, paid for it, and took it to the Fundi who said I'd been given a SATA 1 which was the wrong size. I phoned PC Zone. They said it would fit anyway, and if I brought my laptop they would install the hard drive for me. I went back to Pinetown, they opened up my laptop and told me that my laptop needed an IDE hard drive not a SATA. Okay, I said, can you get an IDE hard drive? No, they said. I asked for a refund. No refunds, they said, but we can do instore credit. I said that if they couldn't get me an IDE, I had no use for their credit. I pointed out that the hard drive was in its original package and returned within 7 days and wasn't fit for purpose. They said that I'd asked for a SATA and that as there was nothing wrong with it I wasn't entitled to a refund. Never again!
