I was in an accident and I rented an Avis car for a month. For the first month I was charged R5100. There was a delay in fixing my car and I extended my car rental from Avis for another week. I was assured that the daily rate would not change. The various agents I spoke to, to get the extensions asked for kilometre readings, but did not indicate why.
When I returned the car this morning, I was informed that the extra week's rental is costing me an additional R5100 instead of the R5100/4 that I expected. The reason: the additional kilometres I drove. At no stage this was brought to my attention, either when signing, nor during follow up. When you use a different method of charging, surely the client should be informed!!!
So, be careful... AVIS will simply charge you the same for 1 week as for 1 month when you extend the duration. While I was standing there, i again heard the lady telling a client that they can rent a car for 1 month and to extend is not a problem... NEVER saying anything about the extra week that will cost you the same as the first month's rent!
