I regularly rent cars from Cape Town airport and I recently had the worst experience with First Car rental. These days almost all companies (not Budget) take out a various amount of money for deposit. First seem to charge the highest amount: ZAR 6000 (524 euros) just for renting a compact car. During the rental they phoned and ask me to change car and unfortunately I agreed. A few hours later somebody came to my place and I got a Polo Vivo instead of a Fiat Punto (both as bad!). Eventually after I returned the car to the airport office I received a bill of ZAR 281 for refuelling of the first and second cars. The second car was topped up at the airport filling station so I don't see how I can be charged for either of that cars. Now my bank statement shows a reimbursement of the deposit of 451 euros. At that time there was no exchange rate difference to justify that gap. Where is the envoice?
When complaining to First, the case was rapidly closed by them without providing another bill.
It's totally outrageous to treat customers that way. Any amount of money can be charged and we have nothing to say. 73 euros have vanished. Apart from a contract fee I had nothing else to pay.
