R 4000 placed on hold on my Credit Card

Upon my arrival at First Car Rental at Cape Town International Airport I was told that an amount of R 4000 would be placed on hold on my Credit Card to cover the excess on the vehicle I was renting for the 2 weeks to follow and I was told that the hold would be lifted immediately upon the return of the vehicle. A balance of R 4632.00 was transacted through my Credit Card which was R 2632.00, payable by me for the rental and a R 2000 deposit, which would be refunded within 4 - 7 days after I returned the vehicle. The vehicle was returned on the morning of the 20th of December 2013, in the exact condition I received it. I received my Tax invoice on the 20th of December 2013, via email. Tax Invoice No. 30146067, RA number 1801857, for the amount of R 3231.80. I did receive my refund of R 1400.20 back into my credit card, but the R 4000.00 was never taken off hold until now. It was never transacted through my credit card so I cannot hold my bank responsible. A letter was sent to me showing the request for the lift, but until now, nothing has transpired. Hard earned holiday money transferred into my credit card, to be put on hold by First Car Rental and NEVER taken off hold. Disgusted!
