I took my car in to Derek Custers Motors to have my gearbox repaired. Initially I was quoted R11 000, then I was told to pay an additional R5000, for a torque converter. I paid R11 000 upfront, and a couple of days later the R5000 for the torque converter.
When the car was ready, this Monday 16th December, I was told to pay a further R1750 for extras that I was unaware of and did not give authorization for. I then said I would pay for those extras upon the return of a friend (who agreed to loan me the funds) from a trip to Zimbabwe. I was then abruptly told off. "No money, no car". Given the nature of the circumstances I was forced to sell a family heirloom, for R1700.
In further correspondence, post-delivery, Mr. Custers named me an, citing that one could not overhaul a gearbox without parts. While this may be factually accurate, this was not included in the quote, nor was there any indication that there would be extra costs.
I find this entire situation deplorable, and the despicable manner in which I was treated (which I might add was not the first time), was entirely unprofessional and in bad taste.
