i just had a bad bad experience from dollar thrifty cape town, I hired a car during the period 3-12 oct 2013. The rental price was unbeateable. I checked the car for scratches and damages before the rental, all was good. But my mistake was that I didn't check the wheels. After driving about 1200km, the rear left went flat. And the spare wheel was a small unstable one, I had to drive about 25km at 70kmh on the south african motorway before I got to a HiQ and got the tyre mended. The guy at HiQ told me the tyres were in bad shape. The next day, the front left went flat. That was enough for me, I went back to cape town airport for a swapover. No problem at all, they gave me a replacement quickly.
When I got back to my country, after one week I get an email telling me my credit card will be charged R1529x2 for damages tyres plus R500x2 for admin fees. We started a long email conversation in which they promised to refund me, but up to now, nothing at all. On top of that, I got a speeding fine for which they charge a fee of R250 to settle for me.
They advertise unlimited mileage and best prices but charge you more than the rental itself after. disgusting.
