The Toyota 2.4D bakkie went in for service & we reported a strange noise from the wheels to be checked. The surly service person called saying cause was universal joints so bad it wouldn't be safe to drive the vehicle without repairs costing around R5000. We asked per e-mail if this repair was covered by extended warranty and were told it isn't covered by warranty. We googled reason for universal joint failure and discovered it is lack of lubrication - we queried how this could have happened when the vehicle is serviced regularly at McCarthy Ballito. We were told - in writing - that it was not covered because of our poor farm roads. We asked for copy of warranty to check for ourselves as poor roads should be mentioned as an exclusion clause - no copy forthcoming till end August. The warranty debit of R386 again went off end August. We queried the warranty again and were told the repair wasn't done under warranty as bakkie missed a service - 3rd written different excuse received. No decision 2 days later from Toyota - is vehicle covered by warranty or not? Service manager unable to provide copy of warranty document or give answer till now. Apalling service from McCarthy!
