In October 2011, I signed up for a Postbox at Postnet, Paulsof. I was given to understand that the payment is for a one-year period only. I was told by the counter lady, that should I elect to not renew, my postbox would automatically be cancelled.
At 13:11 today, I received a rather rude mail, along with 31 other individuals, stating:
"I will start this mail by saying that you should have in fact paid for the annual rental of your post box this year...
...for those who have not yet paid, it is now eight months into the new year and we have still not received payment for the annual rental, nor have we had any communication regarding cancellation of this contract..."
1) I find it unacceptable (and illegal) that my details are made public in a bulk mail, practically accusing you of not paying a supposed "account".
2) How can I be sent a mail requesting money for a service that was stipulated to be one year only, after not electing to renew the service?
If this is meant to be an ongoing service, which is not automatically cancelled upon non-renewal, then staff should be trained accordingly. Also, the POPI Act deems the mailing activity undertaken, illegal.
Thanks
Marlize
