We have used avis Maputo for the last year, and recently we have noticed that our credit cards are being charged at rates of more than 3 times the rate advertised on the internet.
For instance my engineers just got back from Maputo on friday and told me for their car hire from monday to friday he has has R5200-00 removed for Avis.
The rate on the internet is Euro 30 per day which is roughly R400-00 a day and we have been charged R1300 per day.
On returning the vehicle and proceeding to the gates they were called back by an avis representative and an armed security man and told their car voucher was not valid. Needless to say this was sorted out and they just made their flight back to Cape Town.
I have a meeting with my travel agent and the local avis rep on friday the 23rd where we will hopefully get to the botom of this.
My engineer who departed to Maputo this morning refused to hire an avis car today.
