I was 1 of the unfortunate people to buy a Deltec car battery. This is the 1st battery that has given me less than 2 years service. Normally my batteries last from 3-5 years. This type of battery has been withdrawn from the market & was a batch imported from Brazil according to the importer.
The battery in question is a sealed unit. The most basic need of a lead acid battery is 2 have water. The Deltec battery is sealed & ran out of water. The dealer tested the battery & told me it is still fine for service. I then responded that it has no capacity left as it cannot even deliver 5 amp for more than 30 minutes. As it is a 60 Ah battery it should be able to supply 5 amp for about 10 hours. The battery voltage was within the spec for 10 seconds during the test. Due to the fact that the warranty has expired I turned to the importer. I arranged with the rep to collect the battery from the dealer. After a week I got the battery back & guess what - it had 3 dead cells & now only produced 6 volts & was fine when I left it with the dealer. The importer indicated the battery was scrap.
I would like to warn people about the DELTEC batteries that are sealed. Batteries need water 2 function.
