I made a booking last week for twenty guests for Saturday. The booking was followed by an email explaining the processes, of which I then made a phone call to discuss and confirm it.

I received two sms's confirming that our booking was secured, However when we arrived on Saturday, the manager took one look at us and without checking or asking my name, claimed that we had no booking for 14:00. She then went on to and say she had two other bookings for 20 that day for 16:00 so even if we do stay we must be out by then.

To further add salt to injury, she had said we need to make sure we can afford at least R150 per head for all our guests (this of course was not an issue because we were there to celebrate a birthday over lunch and drinks). Her communication with us from the onset was rude and dismissive, she walked off and didn't even conclude whether she would be setting up the table for us.

Upon making an alternative arrangement and leaving, we spoke to a few staff members who shared with us that this was not the first time this had happened, as she often does this to black people. They also confirmed that they had been briefed in the morning for the booking under my name.
