Having been a regular customer over the last 8 years, I had my worst experience to date at Peddlars on the bend this evening. This experience however was not due to any waiter, barmen or backroom staff but by the owner himself. Having spent the most part of the evening enjoying the company of others and celebrating the bafana bafana getting the result they needed to top the group, my evening was ruined by witnessing the owner, Mike van der Spuy, deal out numerous verbal, vulgar lashings to his young staff. As far as I had experienced that evening the service had being great and so is the usual case from the Peddlars barmen and waiters, yet the owner felt the need to brand his staff incompetent in front of onlooking customers, directly over the bar at loud and visible levels. Everybody knows that if a member of your staff is not performing to expected standards, they need to be pulled aside and reprimanded privately; Never in front of customers, I would not have talked to my pets in the manner he spoke to his staff. It was embarrassing for all involved. Let this also be known that this is not the first time I have witnessed such an event from Mr van der Spuy.
