We are locals and have repeatedly bought fresh fish here. On monday we bought just under a kilo of hake. It smelled unusually strong but we went ahead and cooked it. As the fish heated it rapidly became clear that the fish was off. In fact, three days later our flat and car still reek of rotten fish.
We returned the fish the next day and were met by a friendly and accommodating manager, Simpiwe, who had excellent customer service skills. She urged us to come for dinner at their restaurant to make up for our poor experience.
When we did come for dinner three nights later, we met the owner, Cliff, who apologised and seated us at our booked table. We each had an excellent main course fish dish. The bill came to R298. We asked for the bill, expecting to contribute at least something towards the cost. The owner sent his waiter with a bill for the full amount, without even deducting what we had paid him on monday for the rotten fish. Not wanting to make a scene, we asked the waiter to check with the owner. The owner sent him back with the same bill minus R100. This was marginally more than what the rotten fish had cost us.
