Purchased goods using ABSA credit card. The 1st time the transaction was declined. The 2nd time it was successful. The next day while checking my phone, I get two SMS notifications, telling me that both transaction were successful, therefore debiting my account twice. I phone the HELP number listed on the SMSs, only to be given another number to call (Why?), and then have to enter my 14 digit credit card number followed by the expiry date. This entering of the expiry date fails 3 times (I'm 100% certain that I entered it correctly on all 3 occasions). I then wait a couple of minutes for a call agent, who asks me for my 14 digit card number (why I had to enter it the 1st time I will never know) and a number of security questions. The agent looks at the history and tells me that the 1st transaction reversed internally. So now I have wasted 2 phone calls and 15 mins of my life. When I asked why I did not receive an SMS informing me, he told me the system does not work that way as it was an internal transaction. Seriously. I am no systems expert, but even I would implement a notification so that customers do not need to phone a call centre to be told what an SMS could tell me in seconds
