I went in to Capitec, being my primary bank that I use both for myself and my small business. I have been self employed for 6 years and earn a fair amount above an average salary. I provide highly skilled services for my clients.
So I am buying a new car, I have been approved by ABSA and Wesbank so I just wanted to go get a comparative quote on the credit amount from Capitec for interests sake. I told the person at the entrance I wanted a credit application, he asked if I had my salary slips so I said I am self employed and that all my money gets paid in to my Capitec account; I was told immediately that Capitec does not provide credit to self employed persons.
This is absolutely shocking. In our country we have a very large amount of self employed people and to simply turn them away is unacceptable. The ridiculous thing is, if I hired a full time employee and gave him a salary slip, he'd be accepted - yet me as the business owner is not. What kind of logic is that?
Capitec was previously without fault in my eyes but this policy is archaic. I am not interested in credit from them anymore as I have gone with ABSA - just needed to share my disappointment.
