I have a savings account with Capitec bank in which i deposit my monthly salary. Around the 10th of April, on the advice of my agent/consultant, I went to the bank to request them to put a block on two debit orders (Old Mutual and Discovery) for two policies I am replacing. It must also be noted that the letters that informed Discovery and Old Mutual that I will no longer need their services were submitted a month ago. On the 15th of April 2013, the two debit orders went through inspite of the block. I went to the bank on the16th April 2013 to reverse the transaction, but I was told that the bank's policy requires that I submit written proof from the service providers that the parties debited my account by mistake. Well, the service providers will have to just delay the process by 4 days, and the money will be in their accounts... when that is done, chances are that I will never get my money. The bottom line is: Inspite of what any bank may say, your bank account is not yours because you have no authority over what goes in or out.
