9 month's struggle to clear my name

I have received a settlement figure on a credit card, paid in full in May last year (2012). Now, whenever I try to ask my bank for an overdraft - i get a big fat decline - as internally, it still shows that I owe the money. I have proof of payment, proof of closed account, even proof that they will fix it, but WHEN??? SERIOUSLY DISGRUNTLED Soon to be EX CLIENT.
