As a result of the terrible service I have received from Absa in the past, I started closing my accounts with them, and moving to another bank. The last account I had with them was my credit card, which I attempted to close a week ago. First, the cashier that had to pay out the positive balace of the card to me, in order to zero out the account, failed to account for the cash withdrawal fee, causing the account to go negative by R2. This resulted in card division refusing to close the account. Then, I lodged a complaint, as it was their fault, not mine. Now, a week later, I receive an sms stating that my account will be closed when I hand in FICA documents. It is outrageous. I have had enough. FICA to close an account? That's not the law. I would know, I work for a bank. ABSA has 2 days to respond before I report them to the NCC.
