ABSA credit card - NEVER recieved being billed

I spoke with a very friendly consultant over the phone who offered me a credit card. i accepted, gave all my details (THis was during January 2013.) i then waited and received no correspondance with regards to when i would be receiving my card. i then received a bill stating i owe the bank money for the credit card which i never received???

How is it possible that i have not received the card but i have to pay???

I went to branch to pay the fees even and the consultant advised me that they could not provide proof that the account is closed. i see this as unprofessional and.

i would like this account closed ASAP even if possible my money returned
