Loan application, contract signed

I applied for a loan online on wed the 27th February and was told further information is needed and i need to go to the branch, i called the woodmead branch and i was told to fax through my payslip 2 hours later they called me and told me how much i qualify for i had to rush to the branch with my bank statement, id and payslip and i signed the contract and was told the money will be in my account i am an existing african bank client and it has never taken this long to process a loan application, thursday nothing in my account i called the branch and i was told its at the assessment centre, employment was confirmed with HR i gave them till friday, i called the head office 6 times and was told its with the assessment centre, i called the branch and asked for the guy who assisted he told me it at the head office i must call them i asked for the manager who gave me the same answer, saturday morning i woke up and went to a different branch and could not be assisted i asked for the application to be cancelled and the manager in woodmead branch said i needed to be patient until monday. my question is why did i sign a contract and get no money what is taking so long?
