I am opening a bank account overseas, and the bank requested a letter from my local bank giving details of when the account was opened, average monthly income and how the account has been handled.
I took this letter into my local branch and asked for a letter from Standard Bank - which request was denied "because they only do it for visa applications"!
I asked to speak to her supervisor - and she left - I thought to bring her supervisor - but instead she return to advise that she had spoken to her team leader who agreed that they would not provide the letter.
I have been a customer for 35 YEARS - and they refuse to provide a simple letter - without which I cannot open the foreign bank account!!!
I sent an email complaint to my branch - and in return received a call from a consultant trying to persuade me to upgrade to private banking - because then I would be able to get this letter!!!
I am totally disgusted wtih Standard Bank's failure to provide any customer service whatsoever - and this is just the last of numerous incidents of incomptence or arrogance or both - so after 35 years I will be closing my account wtih Standard Bank.
